There are so many exciting events happening this April in Tulsa. Fans of classic rock will have a very full month with a few big-name musical groups coming to town and kids will love the chance to see their favorite curious monkey live on stage and Let’s take a look at ten of the most exciting events going on this month.
The Sound of Music
The hills are alive with the sound of music. A brand new production of the classic musical, The Sound of Music, is coming to Tulsa’s Chapman Music Hall. During the first week of April, you can relive the classic story of Maria and the von Trapp family. Gather the whole family together to enjoy this wonderful show and hear the classic tunes like “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “The Sound of Music,” and more. Apr 3-4, 6-8
Thomas Rhett, Brett Young, and Jillian Jacqueline
Country singer-songwriter Thomas Rhett is bringing his Life Changes tour to the BOK Center this April. This ACM Awards Male Vocalist of the Year and multi-CMA nominee is one of the biggest names in country music this year. He will be performing on April 5th with special guests Brett Young and Jillian Jacqueline.
You may be used to seeing Jay Leno host the Tonight Show, but you have never seen him like this before. After hosting the top late night talk for more than two decades, Leno is heading back to his roots: live comedy. He has performed at nightclubs, theaters, colleges, overseas, and now Tulsa. Leno will be performing stand-up comedy at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino early this April.
Curious George Live!
The lovable little monkey, Curious George, is coming to Tulsa’s Williams Theatre this April 6th in an all new musical show. Kids in grades pre-k to 3rd grade may know Curious George from books, movies, and the award-winning PBS TV show. Join Curious George and his new friend Chef Pisghetti as they celebrate All–You-Can-Eat Meatball Day in this one-of-a-kind live show.
Tulsa Symphony Pops: Ron Spigelman- Voyage of Discovery
Have you always wanted to travel to outer space? You are in luck. The Tulsa Symphony Orchestra will transport you to another planet with their Voyage of Discover: Space, The Final Frontier, featuring Holst’s The Planets. The show will also feature music from Star Trek Enterprise and John Williams’ Star Wars score. The show is guest conducted by Ron Spigelman and takes place on April 14th at the Chapman Music Hall.
Chefs- A Sizzling Kitchen Showdown
Ladies, if you are fan of the Food Network and Magic Mike, you are in for a pleasant surprise with Chefs- A Sizzling Kitchen Showdown. The chefs compete through a series of escalating challenges with high stakes: if they lose a challenge, they lose their shirt. During this hilarious and interactive show, the audience votes for the winner (and may even end up on stage). You won’t want to miss this saucy show at the Cox Business Center Assembly Hall on April 19th!
The Doobie Brothers
The classic rock band, the Doobie Brothers, is coming to Tulsa’s Paradise Cove. The Grammy winning group has been making since the late 60’s. They’ve produced chart-topping hits like “Black Water,” “China Grove,” “Takin’ It to the Streets,” and so many more. So listen to the music this April 21st. You won’t want to miss a single minute of this show.
Judas Priest, one of the world’s most popular heavy metal rock band, will be performing in Tulsa on April 26th. The group is heading out on tour following their newest studio album Firepower. This is their first album since their 1988 record Ram It Down. Judas Priest has often been praised as one of the world’s best metal bands and has redefined the genre for generations to come.
Foreigner is one of the best classic rock groups in music history. Since the group formed in 1976, they have sold more than 75 million albums worldwide, made ten multi-platinum albums, and is number 49 on “Billboard's Hot 100 All Time Top Artists” chart. They are best known for their enduring rock anthems like “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “Hot Blooded,” “Juke Box Hero,” and so many more. See Foreigner perform live this April 26th at Paradise Cove.
The 16th Annual 80’s Prom
Ready for a fun night out? The 16th Annual 80’s Prom at Cains Ballroom is the must-attend event of the year. Get dolled up in your best 80’s costume and get ready for an evening of classic 80’s music and more. There will also be a costume contest, a fashion show, movie re-enactments, a photo booth, and more. You won’t want to miss RetroVision, their video manipulation machine that will broadcast cartoons, commercials, and other visuals from the decade and leave you feeling like you traveled back in time.
