The Oxley Nature Center is a ten-mile park which is a grand showcase of forests, wetlands, and grasslands. Within its vast expanse, you will be able to find many parks and other sites to enjoy and relax in. You can swing by the 2,800-acre Mohawk Park which is known for its birds. The area is largely composed of natural spots such as lakes, woods, streams, and grassy fields. The natural personality of the park has been somewhat altered due to the many changes but still a huge part of the area still continues to attract birders and bird enthusiasts.
North Woods is another area of the park where you can find mature oak woods which offer a whole year of birding. During spring time, the pond holds lots of migrating warblers and other species of birds. There are also numerous ponds that show you the beauty of night herons, both yellow-crowned and black-crowned. There are also various trails you can visit namely the Mallard Lake, the Beaver Lodge Trail, the Sierra Club Trail, and others.
Another major attraction at the nature center is Lake Yahola. This is considered the starting point for birders who go to parks for their passion or to other areas in Tulsa where birds are found. You can find chimney swifts at the tall smoke stack from the months April to October. You can go up the steps towards the monument. You may also scan the entire lake. When it’s winter, you will also be able to witness the Oklahoma duck migration.
